Big news.

Thread is now a Certified B Corp!

We. Are. Stoked. If you work with us, you know we’re pretty allergic to self-congratulations of any kind. But this one is big, and we wanted to share why.

The B stands for “Benefit”

Benefit corporations are traditional for-profit companies that have committed to higher standards of purpose, accountability and transparency. B Corps are required to consider all stakeholders in their decisions.

The certification process measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance with its tool: the B Impact Assessment. The assessment evaluates the impact of a company’s operations and business model across five areas: workers, community, environment, customers and governance.

Thread’s journey

Since taking our first B Impact Assessment in 2019 (spoiler: Our score was not great), we’ve been using the assessment framework to evaluate all of our operations, from how we do performance reviews to where we buy our office supplies. We rolled out Thread’s first-ever handbook and overhauled our recruitment and interviewing processes. We implemented proactive and transparent annual compensation reviews. Then we became carbon neutral.

We made changes piece by piece. And today, our purpose and values are ingrained in our operations. We’re tighter and more resilient.  We’re a better and brighter Thread.

But we’re still working on us. Maintaining where we are today won’t be enough to recertify in three years. Joining a community of organizations committed to positive impact beyond profit will help sustain and accelerate our evolution. We’re so proud to be counted among them.

Our why

Across too many industries for far too long, profits have been prioritized over people and the planet. Today’s global economy needlessly hurts many people, communities and the environment. It’s fueling inequality and climate change. And it doesn’t have to be this way.

Becoming a B Corp and using business as a force for good is about being accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders. It’s about prioritizing long-term value over short-term gains, interdependence over individualism. It means more regeneration and less extraction. It’s a better way of doing business, one that benefits all. And being a B Corp is also good for the bottom line.

If you’re a brand, agency or business interested in becoming a B Corp, come talk to us while it’s fresh. We’ve learned a ton and would love to help you get started.

Drumroll, please: Thread is now a Certified B Corp! We 🎉 are 🎉 stoked
